The Time Will Come (3)

"The Time Will Come"  is a weekly feature hosted by Jodie from Books for Company.
Each Thursday, we share a book that might be sitting unread on our shelves for now, but we do intend to get to!
(Thanks go to Jennifer @ It's Fay, Not Fey! for the graphic!)

I know Charlaine Harris' Sookie Stackhouse series was a hit before the HBO series True Blood ever began.  And while I haven't seen a single episode of the TV series, I understand that it made the books even more popular.  Still, I never got around to reading it.  Sometimes when something is all-the-rage, I check it out to see what the fuss is about (Twilight).  Other times, popularity makes me a little more hesitant.  In this case, for whatever reason, I must have had doubts, because Dead Until Dark has been sitting on my shelves for a long time! I plan to get to it, though.  Maybe another October selection?

If you have read this and loved it, please let me know.  I could use a little poking and prodding!

Got any books you've decided have gone unread for too long? Do share!

  5. Thanks for commenting on my blog!

Kate actually created my blog for me, to help get me started. And out of all my reviews she had access to she chose my review on Dead Until Dark to be the one to start my blog with.

I like the books, they are fun reads, but I'm not really that into them. I've only made it through book 4 and I'm not really in a hurry to read the rest.

  7. I read them all except for the most recent book. The first four books are amazing! After that it's kind of hit & miss for me.
The series bears little resemblance to the books so it doesn't matter if you've seen the TV show.

  8. @Karen Hi, Karen! Thanks for the endorsement on the books. I definitely need encouragement. Visited your blog this morning. Think I'll be looking into the Reviewer's Challenge!

  9. Hi Dawn
i have read all the books in the series. This one was really good. My guy brought it home for me and when I read it we went out to get the next 3 at once! After book 4 it does get a bit ehh. But as the next book is the last in the series I decided to finish it out. Karen is right. You haven't missed anything by not seeing the show because they are two different takes. I read the books before the series came out and for awhile I was going,"but that didn't happen." They are both good just different from each other.

  10. @Cristina Thanks, Cristina. It sounds like it may be a good thing I didn't buy a whole set of books. Bought the first and told myself I'd try it first and then decide whether to buy any more.

  11. This series is wonderful - quirky, easy to read, and full of a great cast of characters. That's not to say I don't have a few issues here and there with the books, but I think you will enjoy the first book when you do read it!
